Bargin bin treasures!

Bargin bin treasures!

I went to WalMart the other day and was rooting around in their bargin CD & DVD bins and came up with some real winners and here they are:

Trick or Treat

A movie with Ozzy Osbourne and Gene Simmons (the guy from KISS and not that British actress that always came out in the Love Boat–I remember hearing the announcement for the next episode, and they would say “with Gene Simmons” and I’d be like “Cool, I wonder if he’s gonna wear his make-up!” I’d tune in and get that old British lady instead, talk about bummed!). Though they get big pics on the cover, apparently they play only miniscule roles in the movie. But, it’s Gene Simmons and Ozzy! I guess they are using their images to sell more of these. I’ve yet to have time to watch it, but I am pretty anxious to see it. Listen to the summary from the package:

A Deadly Obsession Turns into a Spine Tingling Horror
Eddie Weinbuaer is a typical All-American teenager, at least he was until he fell under the evil spell of Rock Music. [shudder!] Now he’s obsessed with his heavy-metal superstar idol, Sammi Curr, who is killed in a hotel fire. Eddie becomes the recipient of the only copy of Curt’s unreleased album, which when played backwards sends a message of destruction and as Halloween approaches, Eddie begins to realize this isn’t only rock ’n roll…it’s life and death and he must draw the line to thwart the mission.

Wow! Sounds pretty cheesy–but I like cheesy, so this could turn out to be a good flick. Hell, for $5.88 it’s worth the gamble. I’ll report with a better review after viewing, so stay tuned.

The Best of Cab Calloway
I remember seeing this guy in the Blues Brothers and liking his performance (He did Minnie the Moocher before the big concert towards the end of the movie in case you’re wondering). As I may have stated before I am a true lover of music, what that means is that as long as the music is enjoyable (I know that’s relative, but I am the one listening to it) I’ll listen to it. I don’t bother with being trendy or “Alternative” (which, by-the-way, was a choice and not a genre when it was coined). But I’ll explain my musical taste a little more once I finish my personal info pages. Anyways, this is some great Big Band/Bee Bop. The sound quality isn’t that great, but these were from recordings in the 30/40’s I believe. So it adds a little charm and warmth to the sound I think. Can’t beat it for $2.88! Now I just need to go back when I have more cash and get some more music.

Here’s a list of the tracks on the CD:

  1. Minnie the Moocher
  2. Jumping Jive
  3. That Old Black Magic
  4. Get With It
  5. Yesterdays
  6. Stormy Weather
  7. Airmail Stomp
  8. You Got It
  9. One O’Clock Jump
  10. Everybody Eats When They Come to My House
  11. This Is Alway

today in my life

today in my life

iTunes :: Tranparente :: Aterciopelados
drinking :: Beaujolais Saint-Louis & big Red & Rum

Well, It’s early Friday morning and I’m drunk–wow, my first drunk post. Not much happening, it was Na&rsauo;s bday the other day and Teri made shish kebobs (quite yummy, by the way) and we got together at my mom’s house. We’re planning a trip to the coast this weekend–well, Fri and Sat. I haven’t been in a while and it’s always nice to see the sea. We’ll be doing some fishing and swimming, so it should be pretty fun. Unlike most folks, the coast is a place of almost spiritual connection for me. I love just sitting there and watching the waves come in, the detritus on the beach, the patterns in the sand. It’s all part of a great pattern/rhythm in nature. I like to see what the sea is putting out. the last thing I want to see is the morons getting drunk and defiling the beach–it’s sacrilege if you ask me. But, then again, I am more of a nature worshipper than anything else. Well, that’s about enough about that.

Yesterday we went out and saw Pirates of the Caribbean. It was an excellent film, very enjoyable. Johnny Depp really gave quite a good performance, he really gave the character of Jack Sparrow a real personality. The swordfighting was excellent. As an ex-fencer, I really enjoyed the classic styles they used. Alot of the most recent films I’ve seen have included too much Kung-fu in the fighting, and this film was a refreshing change. Every stroke, and parry was proper and not contrived. Whoever did the choreography did an excellent job. I’m definitely getting this when it comes out on DVD.

The girl on the movie was pretty good, I could have sworn it was Natalie Portman, it was, in fact, Keira Knightley. It wasn’t until I got home and looked it up that it wasn’t Natalie, but Keira Knightley’s credits include the Phantom Menace, so I figured that she was one of Amidala’s doubles, hence the resemblance. The similarity of the eyes is what had me fooled, there was still a question in my mind.

I wholly recommend the film, go check it out and enjoy!

it’s been a while, eh?

it’s been a while, eh?

Not too much has happened here since the last post. The Spurs did win the championship though!! There was surely some partying going on that night! I took some pics of the scene downtown the night the won, it was pretty crazy! I’ll post some later.

I’m still looking for a job, not having too much luck, gonna probably have to resort to finding something in a related field. Web design or *shiver* advertising.

As far as the site, well, I’m working on a personal section, a fairly static area where I talk about me and my likes/dislikes. I’ve been thinking about using this section for something other than my life happenings–as if I have very many. Maybe I’ll do reviews on stuff. “Mixtli’s Reviews” giving stuff my seal of approval, or rate them on a scale of 1 to 5 cats, cheese slices or something.

pues, entonces I’m outta here.

peace,
