Wow, it’s been a while since I posted here, so here goes. last night we went to Austin to see Electric Six at Emo’s. I’ve been meaning to post a little something about these guys, but haven’t gotten to it, until now so I’ll start with a small review of their album Fire. When I first heard the album, I was blown away and couldn’t put it down for over a week. To describe the sound, I’d have to say it’s Disco themed lyrics set to heavy metal music, with an ample amount of high quality cheese thrown in. It’s almost as if these guys studied the antics and moves of 70′s and 80′s rock bands and pushed it over the edge into a great parody. The lyrics and rhythms are catchy and I couldn’t help but “get into the groove.” Like I said before, I listened solely to this album for over a week straight. I would not be listening to my iPod then, I would start humming a tune from the album and I just had to hear it, it was pretty weird. I don’t think I have been affected by an album like that for a while now.
The show last night didn’t leave me disappointed! It’s one thing to be able to pull off that kind of act in the studio, but in a live show it would be easy to either not give it enough performance, or to over do it, but they did an excellent job. I highly recommend the album and if ever you get the chance, check out these guys live, it’s well worth it.
